All the pupils are under the authority of the junior high school director.

At each level, the pupils are followed by the division responsible and the head teacher. Teachers regularly meet to define work teams and to organize controls and tests, to adjust the different
groups if necessary.

Pupils have to stay at school even if their schedule has no class at a definite time. so they are monitored by an attendant.

YEAR « SIXIÈME »

Timetable
To allow a well balanced of classes, the subjects are organised as follows:

The mornings are dedicated to French, mathematics, 1st foreign language and history-geography classes. These classes take place consecutively.
The afternoons are dedicated to art classes, technology, science, physical education and other sports activities.

YEAR « SIXIÈME, CINQUIÈME, & QUATRIÈME » G.N.M

The subject level groups also known as G.N.M. (groups de niveaux matières). This structure allows the possibility for each pupil to work and progress at their own pace and with continual support to achieve further development. The pupils are divided into equal groups for: French, mathematics, English and history-geography. The group levels are evolutionary. The pupils can therefore change groups depending on their progress or difficulties encountered.

Teachers working together: The teachers involved in the G.N.M. meet together regularly. Known as « team teaching ».
Assessments are carried out to determine the pupil’s progression at certain times throughout the year: These marks aim to offer an opportunity to reassess the groups.

YEAR « TROISIÈME »

The G.N.M. structure does not apply in this year. The dividing of the pupils relates to the choices made in modern or indeed ancient languages together with the previous courses followed in the G.N.M. structure. In January and May, the pupils in « troisième » pass mock exams in French, mathematics, history-geography and civic education.

In «cinquième, quatrième & troisième »
The pupils who have a particularly high potential, they can earn a place in a class where they would be suited to develop further. This is
class « J ».

In « quatrième & troisième »
Some classes and particular groups are reserved for pupils with learning difficulties and those who need to strengthen their knowledge during the final two years of « collège ». The number of these classes is limited. The teachers adapt their teaching to the pupil’s needs. Alternate classes can be proposed. It is also possible to sit in on a couple of ½ day sessions in the Lycée to gain an appreciation of the technological and professional subjects.

Young sports enthusiasts
The « Collège » supports all sports enthusiasts with potential and can adjust their timetable to allow a regular training programme. St. Joseph has an ongoing partnership with the HAC-Football training centre.

Intellectually, advanced children
After completing an I.Q. test the child is invited to discuss their programme and will then follow a course in in the group known as class « A », from the sixième up until the « troisième » (except in some particular cases), meaning « groupes forts » in the basic disciplines. These classes propose diverse, complementary activities known as « à projets ».

From « sixième » onwards
A British international section is now open from the sixième. The section welcomes foreign as well as French pupils to be taught by French and foreign teachers alike.

In « sixième », the bilingual section (English / German)
This section’s objective is to allow pupils interested in modern languages and already have a good level of English, to develop their knowledge further. This section also allows the pupils, who wish to, enter into the German or English , European section in « quatrième ». This bilingual section continues in « cinquième ».

In « quatrième » & « troisième »
The European sections in the English and German language. The pupils benefit extra hours of teaching in their chosen language. There are some privileges when learning another language and it’s culture. An assistant native speaker actively participates in classes on a regular basis. A minimum of one foreign exchange visit is organised. The pupils sit in the classes during their visit. A number of activities are organised within and outside of the school, such as the foreign week, the celebrations of « special days », theatrical and musical activities, exchanges via Internet, multimedia workshops. These classes maintain a continuity with the Lycée.

In September 2006 three new sections were opened for 13 year old students:

A British international section
An Italian speaking European section
A Chinese speaking section

In September 2007 we will continue the development of these sections.
